    WHAT HAPPENED?

Kaizer Chiefs have endured a season in which they have been blowing hot and cold and could finish the term outside the top half of the Premier Soccer League table.

That has thrown the future of coach Nasreddine Nabi into a state of speculation and has even attracted the attention of players.

Former Chiefs defender Lucas Radebe feels Nabi deserves to stay at Chiefs for another season, especially after he helped end a decade-long trophy drought by winning the Nedbank Cup.

    WHAT RADEBE SAID

“It’s a pity that we judge coaches by results, and he wasn't great in the league but got us what we haven't had in the longest time, which is a trophy,” said Radebe as per Times Live.

“I think Nabi deserves another season so that we can see where he is heading.

“For him to bring consistency and the team to get better in the league so that we challenge for honours and qualify for continental football, the club must invest in players.

"We are hungry for success and Nabi needs the necessary support from the club," added the former Leeds United captain.

"This is a big brand on the continent, and support for the coach when it comes to recruiting players is crucial.

“They won the Nedbank Cup, and this could be a great platform on which to build a team that will consistently win trophies and compete for league honours.”

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Nabi's future at Amakhosi seems secure at least for next season, according to the club's marketing director, Jessica Motaung.

“We back the coach, and we have had this discussion during the season," Motaung said.

"It is not a new conversation, and I have answered it repeatedly. The coach has a contract and we back him.

"We are going to sit down with him and see what needs to happen and what needs to change. But we have been backing the technical team and the coach."

Motaung's remarks could give the Tunisian a sense of certainty and have him start preparing for next season.

Assuring Nabi about his future at Naturena would be key for him to have the club spring into action now and bring in the players he has identified to sign for next season.
