Kaizer Chiefs have been leaking goals and Itumeleng Khune sends message to Fiacre Ntwari as ex-Bafana Bafana goalkeeper eyes return to competitive football

Fiacre Ntwari has taken up the role of Kaizer Chiefs' number-one goalkeeper ahead of other established players like Bruce Bvuma and Brandon Petersen.

He was signed after the Soweto giants decided against handing Itumeleng Khune a new contract.

But the Rwanda international has been part of a leaky Chiefs backline and Khune has leapt to advise Ntwari.

"All the goalkeepers that are at Chiefs and in the Bafana team, Ronwen Williams is enjoying himself in the Bafana team and he never thought of Itumeleng Khune and other goalkeepers who came before me," Khune told the media at the Top Bet event.

"But he is focusing on his own path and that is what I wish and hope for the Kaizer Chiefs goalkeepers, not to think too much of the goalkeepers who came before them. Let them focus on themselves, on their performances, work hard at training because in matches things just become automatic.

"They happen as long as you put in your hard work at training. Hence, they say you play how you train," the Ventersdorp-born man added.

"So, that is what I pray for, that Ntwari shouldn’t focus more on who came before him and who did what. He just has to focus on his game and on improving himself and the team and he will come right."

Ntwari has been the last man in a Chiefs defence which has been leaky so far this season.

The Rwandan has managed to keep just one clean sheet in seven matches while conceding an uninspiring 11 goals.

It is a concerning run of form for Ntwari who arrived at a Chiefs side struggling to fix some defence frailties.

Chiefs have a long period to sort out their problems at the back and return to competitive action on November 27 when they host Richards Bay in a Premier Soccer League match.

Besides considering changing goalkeepers, coach Nasreddine Nabi might also have to revise his central defence pairing of Inacvio Miguel and Rushwin Dortley while also looking at his wing-backs.

Khune, on the other hand, has made it clear that he is not ready to return to Chiefs as a goalkeeper coach as he is keen to continue playing professional football.
