    WHAT HAPPENED?

The 60-year-old is without a job as a result of Roma firing him on Tuesday after only one win in his previous five games. Al-Shabab and Mourinho were reportedly in advanced negotiations over the weekend regarding a relocation to Saudi Arabia. Cope Radio [via The Standard], however, reports that Mourinho is "waiting for an option that motivates him" and has opted not to join the club just yet.

  • WHAT MOURINHO SAID

"I will go to Saudi Arabia in some free time, but I am convinced that I will work there. I don’t know when, but I am pretty sure of it. Doors are always open for me in Saudi Arabia. I want to feel the development there," the Portuguese said in an interview in October.

"Cristiano was the first to go there and give a different perspective immediately. The players thought at first that it was a one-man show but they realised in the summer that everything was really changing. Many players, not just in the last period of their careers, but also some players in the best years of their careers, are coming because the competition is real, not just in the domestic League, but also the AFC Champions League is very interesting."

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Over the weekend Mourinho was sighted in Barcelona, but he didn't disclose why he was visiting Spain. The Portuguese manager is expected to rejoin Serie A and take Walter Mazzarri's position as Napoli manager, according to The Times.

  • WHAT NEXT FOR MOURINHO?

Later this week, Mourinho is expecting to meet with Napoli president, Aurelio De Laurentiis. However, with Napoli playing in the final of the Supercoppa Italiana against Inter on Monday, a win for the Partenopei will likely mean that Mazzarri will stay at his post at least for the remainder of the season.
