    WHAT HAPPENED?

Kaizer Chiefs' head of scouting and recruitment, Tera Maliwa, has opened up on the club's struggles in the transfer market.

This follows criticism from fans as Amakhosi signed players who struggle to make an impact, while the Soweto giants have also shipped out young players who go on to become top performers at other clubs.

But Maliwa, who works closely with Chiefs' sporting director Kaizer Motaung Jr, has defended their transfer decisions.

    WHAT MALIWA SAID

"Transfer windows have become not easy at all. It’s easy for fans calling for SD [sporting director] and scouts to be sacked because they didn't make deadline day signings," Tera Maliwa said on his official social media page.

"But panic signings can be a disaster that cause lasting damage. Need to consider strategy and ignore the noise.

"It’s easy to assume when you are over the fence and not 24/7 into the game. The SA market is 1/2 sided; it’s no longer the same," the former Mamelodi Sundowns and Ajax Cape Town scout added.

"I think this is the right time to write my book. I’ve seen enough, enough hate."

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Amakhosi coach Nasreddine Nabi has signed 10 players for this season and it is to be seen if they are the right material Amakhosi were looking for all along.

The likes of Thabiso Monyane, Paseka Mako, Siphesihle Ndlovu and Flavio Silva have already impressed and have to prove to be consistent as the season progresses.

But other new signings, including Ethan Chislett, Luke Baartman, Asanele Velebayi, Etiosa Ighodaro, Lebihang Maboe and Nkanyiso Shinga, are yet to get opportunities to showcase their worth.

    WHAT NEXT FOR CHIEFS?

With the Premier Soccer League transfer window closing on September 22, it remains to be seen if Amakhosi will add more new players to their squad.

The club's ex-transfer target, Khanyisa Mayo, was deregistered by Algerian side CR Belouizdad and that could be the club's opportunity to consider having him.
