    WHAT HAPPENED?

Bafana Bafana international Khanyisa Mayo delivered consistently in Mzansi during his time at Cape Town City.

In their bid to strengthen the attacking department, Algerian heavyweights CR Belouizdad signed the now 27-year-old.

The forward was meant to help the North African outfit be successful domestically and abroad.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

In the 2024/25 season, Mayo played 41 games for his club across all competitions but could only manage six goals and an assist.

It is not what the club had anticipated from Mayo, who won the 2022/23 Premier Soccer League's Golden Boot after finding the back of the net 12 times with two assists.

Former TS Galaxy coach Sead Ramovic has now put the striker on sale, insisting he can't give him what he wants.

    WHAT RAMOVIC SAID

“It was my decision, and it was not an easy one,” he said in his interview with iDiski Times.

“Mayo is a true professional, and I have the utmost respect for him. But in football, it’s about timing, the right role for the player, and the overall strategy of the team.

“At this stage, I believe a new challenge would be the best opportunity for him to continue playing at the highest level.

“I truly wish him every success in the next chapter of his career," Ramovic concluded.

    WHAT NEXT?

Kaizer Chiefs had initially chased the striker and narrowly missed out last season. Patrick Mayo, Khanyisa's father, who played for Amakhosi, hopes his son can play for the Soweto giants.

However, coach Nasreddine Nabi has so far managed to bring on board Flavio Silva and Etiosa Ighodaro, raising a question on whether they will add another striker.
