    WHAT HAPPENED?

The 2024/25 edition of the South African top-flight football concluded recently.

Mamelodi Sundowns once again underlined their quality by winning the Premier Soccer League, for the eighth consecutive time, despite Orlando Pirates' pressure.

The Buccaneers set history by winning the MTN8 for the third time in a row.

However, it was Kaizer Chiefs who stole the limelight by winning the Nedbank Cup and in the process ended a decade-long trophy drought.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Despite the many good things that the PSL witnessed, there were ugly ones as well.

Former Kaizer Chiefs coach Cavin Johnson is delighted with Bucs' development as seen in the league.

However, he feels Roya AM's expulsion, following the failure to meet the obligations as required by the management, was a massive letdown.

    WHAT JOHNSON SAID

“I think the one thing that put a bad marker on the league is the Royal AM saga; it did not go well because the club didn’t even play halfway through the season,” the former Al Ahly assistant coach told the media.

“In saying that, I thought Pirates were really good this season, and I thought they should have won more than one trophy.

“So I think Pirates gave Sundowns a run for their money, but as I said, the biggest letdown was how we handled the Royal AM situation," Johnson concluded.
