Explained: Why Liverpool against Man Utd will be the Reds’ biggest crowd at Anfield for over 50 years

Liverpool have been revamping Anfield Road Stand as part of a £80million ($100.7m) project. On Monday night, manager Jurgen Klopp will come to the ground, which has been reduced to just over 50,00 this season, for a test event where 7,000 supporters will be present. But they need to be given the green light for something before increasing the stadium's capacity...

According to The Athletic, the Reds are waiting for a safety certificate to be granted by Liverpool City Council after Monday night's test event. If they get the go-ahead, the capacity will be increased to 57,000 for the visit of Erik ten Hag's men; courtesy of the partial opening of the upper tier of the redeveloped Anfield Road Stand.

Liverpool reportedly hope to boost the stadium's capacity to 61,000 by January. The overall record for a Liverpool match at Anfield is 61,905, which was set against Wolves in a FA Cup clash in February 1952.

On top of the stadium works, the club are also continuing to develop their fan zone, as well as improving the overall look of the stand, until the end of the season.
