    WHAT HAPPENED?

Kaizer Chiefs had reportedly revived their interest in Esperance winger Elias Mokwana following his impressive performances in North Africa.

This comes after the Soweto giants missed out on signing the Bafana Bafana star before he opted to go to Tunisia before the start of the just-ended season.

Mokwana's agency, Cream Sports Management, have now responded to the current rumours linking the player with Amakhosi.

    WHAT MOKWANA SAID

"There is no truth in those reports about Mokwana joining Kaizer Chiefs, there's nothing, nothing like that," Mokwana's agency told KickOff.

"It's just people having wishes, and it's one of those disturbing stories. His camp has not received nor heard any word from Chiefs and I can tell you, Mokwana is still happy at Esperance."

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Mokwana has just concluded a successful domestic season with Esperance who completed a treble.

Even if Amakhosi come knocking on Esperance's door, Mokwana might be expensive for them as his contract runs until June 2027.

Also, for someone who has tasted success in Tunisia and being at a club that competes at the Fifa Club World Cup, that might discourage him from heading back to the Premier Soccer League.

    WHAT NEXT FOR MOKWANA?

After finishing their domestic responsibilities for the season, Esperance now prepare to go to the Club World Cup where they will face Brazilian Serie A leaders Flamengo, American outfit Los Angeles FC and English Premier League giants Chelsea.

This is a tournament Mokwana will want to use to attract clubs in Europe where he intends to go as his ultimate career goal.
