Zambia release Kalaba, Sinkala and Chongo for TP Mazembe's Champions League trip to Primeiro Agosto

Five-time African champions TP Mazembe travel to Angola for Saturday’s Caf Champions League quarter-final, first leg clash with Primeiro Agosto

Zambia coach Sven Vandenbroeck has revealed that TP Mazembe requested for the early release of Rainford Kalaba, Nathan Sinkala and Kabaso Chongo from the Chipolopolo camp.

After turning out for Chipolopolo in the Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) qualifier in Namibia, the three Zambia internationals were dropped from the traveling squad for Tuesday’s friendly match against Gabon.

Vandenbroeck said the decision to exclude the trio from the match against Gabon was at the request of TP Mazembe.

“I made an agreement with Mazembe that I would have the three boys earlier in camp and would release them earlier because they have an away Caf Champions League first leg game,” Lusaka Times quoted Vandenbroeck as saying.

TP Mazembe completed the Champions League group stages unbeaten as they seek to reclaim the continental crown which they last won in 2015.

They face a Primeiro Agosto side that has punched above its weight to reach the Champions League quarter-finals for the first time in their history.
