'West Ham should never have attacked Liverpool' – Allardyce warns Pellegrini to get it right... quickly

Manuel Pellegrini has been warned by Sam Allardyce that he must start delivering results quickly or face the chop at West Ham.

Pellegrini oversaw a summer of big changes at London Stadium, with The Irons having made 10 signings ahead of the 2018-19 season.

Felipe Anderson, Andriy Yarmolenko, Jack Wilshere, Issa Diop and Ryan Fredericks were brought in, among others. Big things are expected of what, on paper at least, appeared a rejuvenated West Ham side.

Their Premier League opener did not go as planned, however, with Pellegrini's side having fallen to a damaging 4-0 loss to a rampant Liverpool. 

And Allardyce, who himself managed The Hammers from 2011-15, feels that the club's board will not waste time in wielding the axe if Pellegrini gets it wrong again.

“West Ham going and attacking [Liverpool] like they did is never going to work when you've got those players,” Allardyce told Talksport.

“It's a little similar to watching Chelsea versus Huddersfield – Hudderfield having a go and Chelsea picking them off.

“These players are that good, you leave them that space, they expose you. 

“Certainly West Ham left too much space between the midfield and the back four and Liverpool kept sliding in between the lines and punished them rightfully so.

“You can't expect too much sometimes from all those new players being involved in the team immediately. 

“They need time – and the only way you get time as a manager is by getting results. Nobody will be patient for you.

“Seven players have been brought in, they spent heavily, they need to click almost immediately. That's going to be a big test for Pellegrini.

“He's got a great reputation so hopefully he can do it for West Ham and give the players that have been bought the sort of football and results that they want.”
