Playing in the final is my motivation, says Ikotun High School's Oki

Ikotun Senior High School goalkeeper, Oki Habeeb is excited to have powered his team to the semifinal of the 2017 GTBank Principals Cup championship with his superb saves during penalty kicks at Onikan Stadium on Wednesday.

The teenage goaltender stopped two penalties from Badore Community High School players to secure 3-2 win for the Ikotun Boys after the normal regulation period had ended 0-0.

And the player says his performance was motivated by his side’s hunger to play in the final of the championship after several fruitless attempts in the past, adding that he is happy they are one step closer to achieving their aim this year.

“My motivation was that I wanted my team to be in the final because we want to win the Principals Cup,” Oki told Goal.

“We have been looking for it for so long, so this year we are ready to break the jinx, which was why I did my best to save some of their penalties.

“I believe we will make it through to the final because I already prayed to God and wit the confidence I have in my teammates, and we are also going to work harder than this to achieve our aim.

“No, we are going back to correct all the mistakes our strikers made and I’m sure we will score goals in our next game.”
