WHAT HAPPENED? Arteta defended Raya in the wake of a suspect performance that appeared to lack confidence in Arsenal's 2-2 draw with Chelsea in the Premier League on Saturday.

WHAT THEY SAID: "I haven't seen that at all," Arteta responded when asked if the Spain international is struggling with the pressure of being the Gunners' number one goalkeeper.

"There is a pressure of playing for big clubs where you have to win and you have to be at your best, and you have someone next to you that is pushing you every single day. But we can go player by player or position by position - you will tell me what's happening with the left-back, the holding midfielder. That's the debate and that's the beauty of the game as well. And the fact that you have a lot of options is going to make those talks more frequent."

THE BIGGER PICTURE: Raya was initially a back-up to Aaron Ramsdale after arriving on loan from Brentford, but was promoted to first choice after the September international break and has started every Premier League and Champions League game since.

WHAT NEXT FOR ARSENAL? The Gunners are in action in the Champions League against Sevilla in Spain on Tuesday night. Arteta hasn't rotated goalkeepers in Europe, so it would be a major statement from the boss if Ramsdale is suddenly back in the team.
