Kotoko name Ablordey as assistant coach

Asante Kotoko have landed the services of former player Godwin Ablordey as new assistant coach in a two-year deal, officials have confirmed.

The 38-year-old replaces Michael Osei, who was sacked on Monday after new coach Zdravko Lugarusic declined to collaborate with him, despite guiding the club to a fifth place finish as a caretaker in the 2016 Ghana Premier League season.

Ablordey says it was unfortunate to replace his former teammate at this time but believes the supporters must be calm and rally behind the club

"To be honest, it wasn't easy but the club must also move forward so I will say everything happens for a reason and I am ready to work. This is a new era because from the management level to technical team, there have been some changes so I believe things will improve in the new season," Ablordey told Goal.

"I am ready to assist my new boss wholeheartedly because we've gone two seasons without a trophy and the supporters are not happy with the situation so we can't fail to deliver a title this time around," he added.

Kotoko have also announced the appointment of former defender Shilla Eliasu as team manager and that the jersey number No.4 which was worn by legend Stephen Oduro for more than a decade had been idolised.

Goal understands that seven players including Kwame Boateng, Michael Yeboah and Emmanuel Osei Carlos have been loaned out to Berekum Chelsea.

The 2017 Ghana Premier League season kicks off on February 4.
