Chiellini family longing for Liverpool win over 'unlikeable' Real Madrid as Champions League bitterness lingers

The Juventus defender suffered quarter-final heartache at the hands of the Blancos and is hoping to see them come unstuck against the Reds in Kiev

Giorgio Chiellini’s father has revealed that the Juventus defender and his extended family will be backing Liverpool to overcome “unlikeable” Real Madrid in the Champions League final.

Those in Turin suffered quarter-final heartache at the hands of the Blancos this season and are refusing to let the issue lie.

Massimilinao Allegri’s side battled bravely to force their way back into a last-eight encounter only to be undone by the concession of a controversial stoppage-time penalty at the Santiago Bernabeu.

Bitterness remains when it comes to that decision and Cristiano Ronaldo’s subsequent spot-kick, with the Chiellinis hoping that Real will now get to experience European pain of their own in Kiev.

Fabio Chiellini told Mediaset Premium: “With the match practically over, a dubious penalty does leave you upset, as you saw from Giorgio’s reaction.

“I’ll look at the result, but it won’t take my attention.”

He added on a continental clash set to pitch two attack-minded sides into direct competition: “We’re cheering on Liverpool, both Giorgio and me.

“In a way, I guess Real are unlikeable a bit like us at Juventus, because we win all the time. It’s only normal.”

Juve are currently basking in the glory of another Serie A title triumph, their seventh in succession.

The Bianconeri remain the team to beat in Italy when it comes to domestic competition, but their wait for European glory goes on.

They last conquered the continent in 1996, with Champions League final heartache suffered in two of the last four seasons.
