Belgian side Gent snap up Nigerian winger Philip Azango

Belgian First Division A side Gent have signed Philip Azango from Trencin on a three-year deal for an undisclosed fee.

The young Nigeria striker made 22 league appearances, scoring thrice last season for the Slovak outfit.

This term, the forward has notched three goals in eight Europa League games although the efforts were not enough to help the Stadion na Sihoti outfit progress to the group stage of the competition.

On Friday, the Buffalos announced the acquisition of the forward, thus, following the footsteps of his compatriots Moses Simon and Samuel Kalu who both moved from Trencin to join the side.

“Philip Azango Elayo has signed a contract for 3 seasons at KAA Gent,” read a statement on the club website.

“The 21-year-old Nigerian left flank attacker, born on May 21, 1997, comes from the Slovak AS Trencin.

“He follows in the footsteps of Moses Simon and Samuel Kalu, who made the same switch earlier.”

Azango could make his first appearance for Gent when they clash with Cercle Brugge in a league game on Sunday.
