Akwa United close to signing 2014 World Cup star Juwon Oshaniwa

Juwon Oshaniwa is on the verge of joining Nigeria Professional Football League outfit, Akwa United.

The Super Eagles defender at the 2014 Fifa World Cup, Brazil has been hunting for a new club since he was shown the way out of Hearts in June 2017 following his inability to break into the first team.

Oshaniwa has been training with the Promise Keepers and Goal gathered that the former Ashdod man could be snapped up by coach Rafael Everton following his impressive performance in training.

“He has really impressed during his short time with the team and it is evident that he would be handed a contract before the commencement of the new season,” a club official who pleaded anonymity told Goal.

“It will be a big plus for us to have him in our team based on his wealth of experience and quality.”

Following the departure of Gabriel Wassa to rivals Plateau United, Akwa United are in dire need of a left back and the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations winner looks odds-on to get a deal.
