Abdoulaye Dabo equals Salomon Olembe’s Nantes record

Abdoulaye Dabo has equalled the record for the youngest Nantes player to make a Ligue 1 debut.

The midfielder was handed a starter’s role in the Canaries’ 3-1 defeat to AS Monaco on Saturday, making his debut at the age of 17 years and five months.

That equals the record set by Cameroon football great, Salomon Olembe in 1998, who made his bow for the Nantes based outfit at the same age.

Big things are expected of France under-17 international Dabo, who is an imposing midfielder. He was on parade for 72 minutes before making way for Emiliano Sala.

Second half strikes from Rony Lopes, Stevan Jovetic and Radamel Falcao handed Monaco an impressive start to the French topflight, with Sala’s 90th minute effort standing as a mere consolation.

Dabo would be hoping to get the nod from manager Miguel Cardoso when his side faces Dijon in their next fixture on August 18.
