Arsenal's Emile Smith Rowe replacement? Mikel Arteta targets Athletic Club starlet Nico Williams as England international nears summer exit

The Premier League side have been scouting the Spain international, The Mirror reports, as they are looking at candidates to strengthen their options on the wings for next season. As well as the 21-year-old, they are also eyeing Wolves star Pedro Neto.

Arsenal would have to pay a big price to sign Williams from the Basque team this summer. He penned a new contract with the club in December, extending his commitment until 2027. Williams, who came through Athletic Club's youth academy, has scored five goals and set up 10 across La Liga and the Copa del Rey this season.

Arsenal are looking at potential new signings as they are preparing for some key departures in the next transfer window. Emile Smith Rowe, Thomas Partey and Eddie Nketiah could all be offloaded by the north London team at the end of the current campaign.

Before they start planning for the 2024-25 campaign, Arteta's team hope to continue their challenge for the Premier League title this season. They are currently third in the table and two points behind leaders Liverpool after 23 matches.
