Former Ghana Football Association vice-president Fred Pappoe thinks former Black Stars coach Avram Grant was poorly handled which led to a massive public backlash.
The Israeli, who came on board in 2014 with a $50,000 per month package, was widely criticised for his unwillingness to reside in the country and scout local talent.
“I was a member of the panel that selected Avram Grant and I have no regrets recommending that he should be brought on board. There are two things involved when you give someone a job," Pappoe told GHOne TV.
“If you recruit a person to do a job for the country, you must make clear the terms of reference from the deliverables and then you must supervise and ensure that he is doing what he was brought on board for to execute.
He added: “So there was a missing link somewhere and I will say it was an act of shirking of responsibility on our part to the extent that we didn’t manage him. If that's how we're going to treat foreign coaches when we bring them on board, then we should not waste our time and resources because it won't help us.”
Grant mutually parted ways with Ghana after his two-and-half-year contract expired in February. He led Ghana to the final of the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations in Gabon, losing on penalties to Cote d'Ivoire.
