Former Republic of Ireland and Wrexham captain James McClean has expressed a desire to step into the boxing ring following his recent departure from hometown club Derry City. Phil Parkinson's Wrexham have fallen to back-to-back league losses for the first time this term after going down 1-0 against Sheffield United at Bramall Lane. Former Republic of Ireland international James McClean has parted company with hometown club Derry City after both parties agreed to cancel his contract with immediate effect. The 37-year-old wideman leaves Brandywell Stadium just nine months after returning from Wrexham following a protracted dispute that kept him sidelined since July.

Wrexham have been fined £75,000 ($99,800) by the EFL, with a third of it suspended, after naming Issa Kabore and Callum O'Hare in matchday squads when neither was eligible. The Championship club escaped a points deduction only because they lost the first game and O'Hare stayed on the bench in the second, and they are now looking to appoint a club secretary.
