Mamelodi Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane tips Doctor Khumalo to guide Baroka to safety

As the 2017/2018 Premier Soccer League (PSL) is set for its conclusion this coming weekend, Baroka FC will have Doctor Khumalo on the bench as they hope to evade the relegation play-offs.

Khumalo is not new to manning the touchline after taking charge of his former club Kaizer Chiefs on a number of occasions.

Although, he was expected to take over the reigns after the departure of Stuart Baxter three seasosn ago at Naturena, he was overlooked by the club as they announced Steve Komphela as Baxter's successor.

Although Komphela has since left the club, Khumalo is tipped to make his return to the Soweto giants for next season, and his Mamelodi Sundowns counterpart Pitso Mosimane has backed Khumalo to succeed in his current role as Bakgaga Ba Mphahlele’s caretaker coach.

The former Bafana Bafana midfielder was recently tasked with the responsibility of helping the Limpopo side to avoid the relegation play-offs and was in charge of their 2-2 draw against Bloemfontein Celtic two weeks ago.

He replaced MacDonald Makhubedu who took over as coach after the sacking of Kgoloko Thobejane early this year, Makhubedu has now filled the technical advisor role.

Moreover, Mosimane feels Khumalo’s experience in South African football will help him overcome the task at hand with Baroka.

Khumalo will be hoping to add to Supersport United's woes on Saturday afternoon as they want to retain their PSL status.

“Doc has the experience, knows the game and has been there,” Mosimane told the SABC.

“So it’s good that he came up. He got a draw in his first game if I’m not mistaken,” he said.

Baroka FC occupy 12th spot on the log with 34 points from 29 matches while Amatsantsantsa A Pitori sit 14th with 33 points.
