As they continue to work on bagging their first 2018/19 Premier Soccer League (PSL) win, Kaizer Chiefs coach Giovanni Solinas admits that three draws are not enough at a big club like Amakhosi.
The Italian manager says that they will use this week to rectify their mistakes before they take on SuperSport United on Saturday in the MTN8 semi-finals.
Chiefs are yet to win a PSL match this term after drawing three of their matches and losing one so far, but Solinas says the league is a marathon and has downplayed their poor start.
The Soweto giants failed to take advantage of a 10-man Maritzburg United on Friday night at the Harry Gwala Stadium, but Solinas remains confident they will bag their first league win soon.
“I know that three draws in a big club like Kaizer Chiefs is not good enough but I’m confident because we are creating chances in each and every game - the PSL is a marathon,” he was quoted as saying by IOL.
"Football is about how you finish, it is not about how you start. This is a horse race. We judge the horse at the finish line. There’s a lot of games to be played. The league finishes in May and we still have time to fight for the title,” he continued.
It has been a hectic last few weeks for Chiefs as they have been playing games almost every three to four days.
This has previously seen Solinas lamenting the effect of fatigue on his troops.
“The break will give us time to fix our mistakes. It is going to be a good opportunity for us. The month of August has been congested,” continued the coach.
“It is a good opportunity to practice our specific finishing drills and fix our mistakes. We will exploit this time in a right manner.” he added.
“Our build-up is good. We enter the opposition box easily. We only have to improve our finishing,” said Solinas.
“We have to stay calm in the final third. We tend to rush things. The build-up is nice, we keep possession and the combinations are also good,” concluded the 50-year-old.
Amakhosi defeated Ea Lla Koto in the quarter-finals of the MTN8, but have drawn against Mamelodi Sundowns, Baroka FC and against the Team of Choice as well as a loss to Bidvest Wits in their PSL campaign so far.
