Mamelodi Sundowns made another step towards invisibility this season in the Premier Soccer League after a goalless draw against Golden Arrows despite being man-less <a href="https://www.goal.com/en-za/lists/ten-man-mamelodi-sundowns-held-b-golden-arrows-as-71-point-psl-record-remains-within-reach/bltba3c80c3182a28e8" target="_blank">following the sending off of Mosa Lebusa</a>. Masandawana are now on 63 points, <a href="https://www.goal.com/lists/mokwena-now-sweating-on-mosimane-s-long-standing-psl-record-why-not-why-not-go-for-it/bltd5a5af828165570f" target="_blank">just nine points away from breaking a 71-point record in the PSL</a> set by coach Pitso Mosimane in the 2015/16 campaign.

What happened

Teboho Mokoena has been out for a couple of weeks due to a hamstring injury. Sundowns coach Rhulani Mokwena has now hinted he is saving the 2022/23 PSL Player of the Year for the Nedbank Cup final against Orlando Pirates. "He is coming on nicely, [Mokoena] is coming on very nicely, it’s just a matter of risk," the 37-year-old stated. "Maybe had we not qualified for the final, he’d probably be playing some of the games now, but you’ve got to weigh things up. He’s coming on nicely."

This season, striker Lungelo Nguse has been doing quite well, scoring six goals in 22 matches for Arrows across all competitions after joining from AmaTuks.His coach Steve Komphela stated that the 26-year-old is ripe for Bafana Bafana, by saying, " I am tempted to say yes [Nguse is ready for Bafana Bafana], I said the same about Tshegofatso Mabasa, I said the same about a whole lot of other players but it came up around as misunderstood. "I think looking at this Nguse kid, he is something else. He gave big boys trouble here and you see Lebusa must have felt him, [Mothobi] Mvala must have said, 'Okay who is this one? Number 40 Nguse'."So, based on that, I would agree with the question, he’s got ability. He is 26, you know in South Africa, we say you’re still young but he should be playing."

Masandawana coach Mokwena felt Komphela should have capitalised on the numerical disadvantage to punish the champions. "Well, I think maybe his motivation to beat us should have been higher especially when there is a numerical advantage, but I can't speak for Steve," he stated. "We tried to win the game, we did everything we could to win the game. I am very proud of the players for their effort."

Mokwena rued the missed chances, especially in the first-half before slamming Arrows for their defensive approach. "I don't understand how we got into halftime 0-0 [because we had] so many chances; I was counting at one point and I stopped - I think it should have been 5-0," he opined."Then it is 10 vs 11, but there is still one team on the pitch and that is why [Ismail Watenga was the Man of the Match. It was one of those games where the ball didn't go into the back of the net."
