Mamelodi Sundowns coach Rhulani Mokwena has broken his silence on his failed chance to be a coach at Al Ahly. It has emerged <a href="https://www.goal.com/en-za/lists/revealed-how-mokwena-turned-down-pitso-mosimane-s-al-ahly-rhulani-was-always-going-with-us-to-egypt-until-the-last-two-hours-agent/bltb8f4bced0d3bfe5b" target="_self">Pitso Mosimane intended to take with him Mokwena to the Cairo giants</a> when he left Masandawana in September 2020. But the Sundowns coach turned down the opportunity to join the North African giants and he opens up on that.

WHAT HAPPENED?

“To be honest I’ve not had a chance to think about it… but there is a feeling you are where you are supposed to be, and so everything happens for a reason, so I don’t think there’s a space in me that has any regrets,” Mokwena said as per <a href="https://www.idiskitimes.co.za/dstv-premiership/mokwena-on-al-ahly-u-turn-with-pitso/" target="_blank">iDiski Times</a>.“Even though I haven’t&nbsp;really&nbsp;thought about where the journey might have ended, there’s still a huge sense of appreciation, gratitude, for where I am today.”

WHAT MOKWENA SAID

Had he accepted the Al Ahly offer, the youthful coach would have worked outside of South Africa for the first time in his coaching career. But he opted to continue working on the domestic scene where his biggest achievement is arguably guiding Sundowns to the African Football League title.Winning the elusive Caf Champions League title, however, remains a major target for Mokwena.

THE BIGGER PICTURE

Mokwena is left with five Premier Soccer League matches with his team as he attempts to guide them to a record 72-point mark.With Sundowns having already won the PSL title, they still have the Nedbank Cup as the last trophy to win and if they claim it, they will end the season with a treble after also winning the African Football League.
