Manqoba Mngqithi has been <a href="https://www.goal.com/en-za/lists/psl-transfer-news-latest-rumours-from-kaizer-chiefs-orlando-pirates-mamelodi-sundowns-and-all-psl-teams/blt7abceaf4eeb183c9" target="_blank">strongly linked with a move to Kaizer Chiefs</a> after his contract expires at the end of the season.There have been rumours that Amakhosi have made contact as they aim at having a permanent Molefi Ntseki replacement.In response to the reports, Mike Makaab, who is the tactician's agent, has set the record straight.

WHAT HAPPENED?

"I have heard a lot of rumours expressing interest but I can tell you as I am sitting here, we have not had a formal approach from Kaizer Chiefs for Manqoba," Makaab told <a href="https://gagasiworld.co.za/mike-makaab-comments-on-manqoba-mgqithi-links-to-kaizer-chiefs/" target="_blank">Gagasi FM.</a>"I don’t think the onus should sit on us to make that approach. It’s a different story if we were introducing a football coach who is not known to clubs in this country, but I don’t think we should make a formal move unless there is interest, a genuine interest from the club itself not through the media."

WHAT MAKAAB SAID

Initially, there were rumours that <a href="https://www.goal.com/en-za/lists/agent-issues-update-on-mamelodi-sundowns-coach-mngqithi-chloorkop-future-with-new-contract-negotiations-underway/blteef52c092dc36371#csec4bd2b25efa10b6" target="_blank">Mngqithi was unhappy at Sundowns</a> where he works under head coach Rhulani Mokwena.He was expected to leave the Brazilian last season but it was Steve Komphela who instead dumped the Tshwane giants.A couple of weeks ago, Makaab was quoted saying there are ongoing negotiations about the extension of the tactician's contract.With the nature of the transfer window, the odds are fairly balanced.

THE BIGGER PICTURE

Chiefs should explore other options soonest to avoid getting disappointed if they are really interested in Mngqithi.With interim coach Cavin Johnson heading back to his youth development role, it will be wise to have someone to immediately take over.
