Vardy, Mahrez reunion delights Claude Puel

Leicester City manager Claude Puel is delighted to see Jamie Vardy and Riyad Mahrez play together again.

The 26-year-old was absent for ten days at the King Power Stadium after failing to secure his desired move to Manchester City in the January transfer window.

However, in his first start since January 20, the forward set up Vardy for the winner against Sheffield United to help the Foxes clinch their first quarter-final place in the FA Cup since 2012.

And French tactician is pleased not only with the victory but also seeing the duo combine together to lead the Foxes to victory.

“The most important thing was to win the game but also to see again Jamie and Riyad playing together in the same game and on the same pitch,” Puel said after the match.

“It was a good feeling and it was important and we appreciate the good support from the fans for Riyad. It was important they remained with him after this story and it’s a good feeling for the future.

“He was a little frustrated at the end because he wanted to score for the fans.

“It’s important to stay united about this, it’s a good thing and we can move on. The situation is behind us, it’s important to look forward.”

The Algeria international has now scored nine goals this season in all competitions and contributed eight assists.

He will be hoping to continue the impressive form when Leicester play host to Stoke City in their next league game on February 24.
