Nainggolan hints at new Roma deal as Inter & Man Utd hopes fade

Roma have stepped up contract talks with star midfielder Radja Nainggolan as they look to fend off reported interest from Inter and Manchester United.

The Belgian and his agent Alessandro Beltrami met in the Italian capital with Giallorossi sporting director Monchi on Saturday in an attempt to agree terms on a new deal.

As he exited the meeting, Nainggolan was greeted by fans and was filmed smiling while saying: "Did I renew my contract? Look at my face, I'm smiling."

According to Sky Sport Italia, the talks were positive and Nainggolan will meet with Roma chairman James Pallotta at his base in Boston in the coming days in the hope his future can be settled.

Roma are heading to the United States for a pre-season tour, where they will begin their participation in the International Champions Cup with a match against Paris Saint-Germain in Detroit on July 19.

Nainggolan, 29, has become one of Roma's most influential players since joining the club from Cagliari in 2013 and Pallotta has insisted he will not leave this summer.

"Nainggolan and [Kostas] Manolas will stay with us, they are not moving from Roma," the American billionaire said earlier this week.

"I think we have the best midfield in Italy. In defence we will improve and we can do that by buying some new players."

The latest summer transfer rumours

Roma, who will be coached by former Sassuolo boss Eusebio Di Francesco this season, have already sold Leandro Paredes, Mohamed Salah and Antonio Rudiger this summer for a combined €100 million plus bonuses.

They have spent a little under €40m on new signings: defenders Hector Moreno, Rick Karsdorp and Federico Fazio and midfielders Lorenzo Pellegrini and Maxime Gonalons have all arrived at Stadio Olimpico.
