Lithuania boss quits straight after England defeat

Lithuania coach Igoris Pankratjevas resigned immediately after watching his side lose 3-0 at home to England on Monday.

The 51-year-old walked into his post-match news conference and announced his resignation before immediately leaving the room.

Pankratjevas initially took charge after predecessor Csaba Laszlo quit the role in September 2013, before assuming the reins on a permananent basis at the beginning of last year.

And, although Lithuania ended their Euro 2016 qualifying campaign level on points with fourth-placed Estonia in Group E, Pankratjevas has decided to make his exit.

"Everything has its ending. This is the end of the qualifying cycle and my job. I'm resigning from the team," he is quoted as saying.

"I want to thank everyone for supporting me and the team. Goodbye."

Ross Barkley and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain scored either side of a Giedrius Arlauskis own goal as England made it 10 wins from as many qualifying matches.
