WHAT HAPPENED?

As per the report, McClaren holds a special relationship with Sir Dave Brailsford of INEOS and has earned the admiration of the club's top brass. McClaren and Brailsford reportedly developed a bond earlier on when McClaren had invited the cycling guru to talk with his Derby side a few years ago.

THE EXPLANATION

McClaren was also picked as the choice to take over from Ten Hag by the ownership if they were forced to show the door to the Dutchman before the end of the season. However, with the Red Devils having reached the FA Cup final, Ratcliffe and company decided to stick with the 54-year-old.
