The former Orlando Pirates striker has finally addressed the growing speculation linking him with the national team head coach position once Hugo Broos departs. The South African legend admitted that the current squad possesses the talent necessary to achieve something special on the international stage.

The Bafana Bafana legend and the Premier League record goal scorer were amongst several players officially recognised for their role in the history of the Blue and Whites. The players were invited back to Ewood Park to receive a prestigious Honour Cap during the club’s 150th anniversary celebrations.

The 48-year-old has been in charge of the East African state since March 2025, marking a year into his first role as a national team coach. He arrived in Nairobi fresh from a stint as Manchester United’s forwards coach. That pedigree raised expectations for him as he stepped into the international arena.

The 48-year-old has already had two coaching stints in Europe, although as a backroom staff member. He also built his coaching reputation through spells in the Premier Soccer League and is now in his first role as a national team head coach with Kenya.
