Revealed: Whopping 40% of fans believe England will end 58 years of hurt by winning Euro 2024 - but how many are backing France, Germany and Co to triumph this summer?

  • WHAT HAPPENED?

    A survey conducted across the United Kingdom by Research Without Barriersand commissioned by bet365 has revealed that nearly half of the fans questioned feel that Gareth Southgate's men will end 58 years of heartbreak by winning the European Championship this year. The survey took place between May 31 and June 2, 2024 and the opinions of 2008 fans were taken into account.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

    A whopping 40 per cent of fans felt that their nation was capable of winning the trophy this year, while Kylian Mbappe's France were backed by 19 per cent of fans. Hosts Germany were backed to win the title by 12 per cent of the survey sample and 2008 and 2012 winners Spain garnered support from just eight per cent of fans.

    The Three Lions, who missed out on the trophy by a whisker last time after being beaten on penalties against Italy in the final, are being considered as one of the favourites yet again to lift the title. They head into the competition on the back of a 3-0 win over Bosnia and Herzegovina and a 1-0 defeat at the hands of Iceland in their warmup matches.

    Harry Kane and Co. are set to begin their Euro 2024 journey on Sunday as they take on Serbia at Arena AufSchalke (Veltins-Arena) in Gelsenkirchen.
