    WHAT HAPPENED?

Last weekend Kaizer Chiefs followed up their morale-boosting win over Stellenbosch with an equally demoralising defeat to Golden Arrows, leaving them with a record of five wins, five losses and three draws from their 13 PSL matches this season.

It is a far cry from where fans expected the Sowetan giants to be after the euphoria of Nabi's appointment and heavy spending in the winter transfer window.

GOAL asked one of our senior writers to analyse where it was going wrong for Chiefs and he came up with a list of six areas the coach needs to address.

We then posted those six items to our Facebook page for comment and set up a WhatsApp poll to see which one of the six items was deemed the most important by fans.

  • THE VOTE

The WhatsApp vote was a landslide for Chiefs to buy a reliable striker to finish off the chances they create, with Sirino's fitness and happiness a distant second.

  • Messi Ronaldo

    WHAT ELSE?

While the vote was pretty conclusive on what Nabi needs to fix first for our Whatsapp channel subscribers, the comments on our Facebook post were much more scathing of Chiefs and their management team...

Luvo Maru -Even If We Can Sign Messi Ronaldo Yamal & Mbappes Of This World, Nothing Will Come Right As Long We Still Have That Stupid Management 🚮

Desmond Kella - I don't think Nabi knows what he's doing, it's like putting a 3-year-old in a matric exam expecting him to pass 😬

Cmo Matshini - The only solution for Chiefs management is to dissolve the entire team including Nabi and his crew.

Zenani Sbu - Thought they fixed their defence by signing Mr Red Card Miguel, Cross n Dortley

Bongani Mgubela - If he's gonna deal with discipline, he will have to start with himself (self-discipline). Then the players will follow.

Desmond Mvuleni - Chiefs just needs a philosophy that's all,,,,, not to say it needs strikers/midfielders/defense it's not about that,,,there are already good players playing there,,, there's no combination play amongst them so it needs a man who played football to tell the players 1 thing just do ur thing and be compact without the ball that's all 🙌♥️💯

    WHAT NEXT FOR KAIZER CHIEFS?

I have been dreading writing this section since I started on this article as the truthful answer to this question is 'Who knows?'

On their day, like against Stellenbosch, the team can show flickers of being a good side in the making and with time and patience, they will get there. However, we're almost halfway into the season and a lot of the issues we have highlighted - better finishing, tightening up the defence, being disciplined - should already be part of the basic fabric of the squad.

Those failures fall on the coach. Sure, upper management should have brought in a striker in the pre-season transfer window as that is a position Chiefs have struggled with for years, but the best coaches work with the limitations of their squads and find other solutions.

Buying a shiny new striker may appease the fan base (until he starts missing chances!) but the ongoing issues at Chiefs are the coach's responsibility to solve.
