    WHAT HAPPENED?

Shandre Campbell scored his fifth goal in seven games for Club Brugge II when they visited Francs Borains on Sunday.

It was a spectacular goal by Campbell who curled his effort into the top corner to help his side to a 2-1 victory.

The 19-year-old is Club Brugge II's second top goal-scorer behind Kaye Furo who has six goals from 12 matches.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Campbell's form could be something that forces Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos to consider him for national team duty despite playing for Club Brugge's B team in the reserve league.

That might be easy for Broos considering this is a player who tested himself and passed with flying colours while playing Premier Soccer League football for SuperSport United.

He is already a key player for the South Africa Under-20 side which is bidding to play at their age group's 2025 Fifa World Cup.

Part of a promising generation of players that includes the Orlando Pirates duo of Relebohile Mofokeng and Mohau Nkota, the Mamelodi Sundowns trio of Siyabonga Mabena, Kutlwano Letlhaku and Malibongwe Khoza as well as Mduduzi Shabalala and Mfundo Vilakazi of Kaizer Chiefs.

    WHAT NEXT FOR CAMPBELL?

Campbell will be pushing to continue with his red-hot form as Club Brugge II host RSC Anderlecht II on Friday.

Remaining on top of his game will help him get promoted to the first team and boost his Bafana chances ahead of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations finals as well as the 2026 Fifa World Cup if South Africa qualify.
