    WHAT HAPPENED?

It was a tense affair at 5 July 1962 Stadium as Orlando Pirates collected maximum points on the road with 20-year-old Mohau Nkota stealing the show.

As the two teams were still trying to settle down after just five minutes, Nkota got to the end of a Relebohile Mofokeng feed and sneaked the ball past an onrushing Moustapha Zeghba in goals for CR Belouizdad.

On 27 minutes, Nkota then returned to launch a cracker from outside the box which gave Zeghba no chance and doubled Pirates' lead to silence the vociferous home crowd and again, Mofokeng was the provider.

Stung by the early setback, Belouizdad coach Abdelkader Amrani searched for answers from Bafana Bafana forward Khanyisa Mayo whom he summoned onto the pitch from the bench and came on in the 34th minute.

Mayo then repaid the coach's trust in him by heading in an Abderrahmane Meziane cross on 66 minutes, but Pirates hung on to record their first win in this season's Caf Champions League.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Pirates fans will be rejoicing in the fact it was their young guns, Mofokeng and Nkota, who delivered this important victory.

Winning away from home, especially in Algiers against quality opposition, is no mean feat and sets up the Soweto giants nicely for the tough Caf Champions League campaign to come.

With the mighty Egyptians Al Ahly next up in Group C, this win will certainly boost the team's confidence.

    WHAT NEXT FOR PIRATES?

The Buccaneers face a tricky week with having to face Stellenbosch in the PSL on Sunday, seeking to keep their perfect league record intact, and then gearing up for the visit of Percy Tau's Al Ahly in the Caf Champions League on Saturday December 7.

If they can win both those fixtures then the Sowetan club can dare to start dreaming of success in both competitions.
