Kaizer Chiefs started their pre-season in the Netherlands with a 2-1 loss against Vitesse on Tuesday night.

The Glamour Boys displayed a good game in the first half, only to be undone by the Dutch outfit in the second half.

Vitesse manager Rudiger Rehm concedes his team struggled to find its feet at the start before getting the rhythm as the game wore on.

  • WHAT REHM SAID

"In the first half, we were perhaps still a little too passive, we had some trouble applying good pressure, and the distances were sometimes too large, but after the break, things improved," he told Omroep Gelderland in a post-match interview.

"The second half was good, and the victory was therefore deserved. We showed good spirit and were strong in the duels.

"[Chiefs] are a big team, and we want to compete with this kind of opponent and beat them," Rehm concluded.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

While Rehm registered his first win since his appointment as Vitesse coach, coach Nasreddine Nabi hopes the new players he has signed will not disappoint him.

So far, the Glamour Boys have confirmed the signing of six players who are with the team for pre-season.

It will only be fair for the Tunisian to give most of the players enough chances to prove their worth for the club, explaining why recent results might not be important.

    WHAT NEXT?

Chiefs next game will be on Friday, July 11, against Utrecht, who are an even tougher opponent.

Amakhosi hope to have a better Premier Soccer League campaign than last season's disappointing ninth placed finish while also competing in the Caf Confederation Cup, qualifying on the back of their Nedbank Cup triumph which ended a near-decade long trophy drought.
