  • WHAT HAPPENED?

    South Africa U20 National team has been doing well in the ongoing U20 Africa Cup of Nations going on Egypt.

    On Monday, Amajiita beat their counterparts from the Democratic Republic of Congo by a solitary goal to reach the semi-final.

    They will play Nigeria on Thursday, hoping to get to the final, where they will face either Morocco or Egypt.

  • THE BIGGER PICTURE

    Among the players who have been doing well for the Raymond Mdaka-led team are Cape Town City’s leading striker Jody Ah-Shene and Stellenbosch FC defender Tylon Smith.

    Their exploits have attracted former Kevin De Bruyne's Belgian outfit RC Genk.

    This has been confirmed by the club's scout Bernard Yao Kumordzi, who revealed the same to SABC Sport.

    WHAT KUMORDZI SAID

    "Of course, I've seen a couple of players that I think have a level. A player like Jody, for me, he has not scored a lot of goals, but he's a player that has shown a lot of quality," he stated.

    “He's quick, the intensity is there, the runs that he makes. Even though sometimes he does not receive the ball, I can see those runs, and also Tylon Smith has been amazing in this tournament.  

    “For me, he's one of the best defenders that I've seen in the tournament so far. So, of course, South Africa is doing well and I like that," Kumordzi concluded.

    The main assignment for Ah-Shene and Smith will be to help Amajiita win gold in Egypt.
