    WHAT HAPPENED?

South Africa will meet Nigeria in the U20 Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) semi-final after beating the Democratic Republic of Congo 1-0 in the quarter-final on Monday at Suez Canal Stadium in Egypt.

This was a tight game, and both sides failed to break the deadlock in the first and second half. However, Amajita finally scored the decisive goal inside extra time when Mahlangu found the back of the net in the 105th minute. Shakeel April provided the assist.

It was a high-octane game that saw eight players receive yellow cards; Jules Ahoka, Faveurdi Bongeli, Daniel Tshilanda, Noah Makanza, and David Mukandila from DR Congo were cautioned.

From South Africa's side, Neo Rapoo, Patrick Autata, and Gomolemo Kekana were yellow-carded.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

South Africa will now face Nigeria in the semi-final. Nigeria defeated Senegal 3-1 in a penalty shootout following a goalless draw in regulation time.

Nigeria are on course to winning a record-extending eighth U20 Afcon title, but before then, they must beat South Africa in the last four.

SA, Nigeria, Morocco and Egypt have qualified for the World Cup finals that will be held in Chile.

    WHAT NEXT FOR AMAJITA?

While Amajita's eyes are firmly focused on Nigeria and, of course, winning the trophy in Egypt, they will be casting their eyes further into the World Cup finals that will start from September 27 to October 19, 2025.

The South Africa-Nigeria semi-final will be played on May 15.
