Two PSL goalkeepers, Bafana Bafana, Mamelodi Sundowns and Orlando Pirates nominated for 2025 CAF Awards, but African champions Amajita are ignored

Bafana Bafana captain and Mamelodi Sundowns goalkeeper Ronwen Williams is one of the players vying for the CAF Goalkeeper of the Year award.

Chippa United's Stanley Nwabali also appears in this category dominated by overseas-based custodians.

Other nominees include Andre Onana, Edouard Mendy and Yassine Bounou.

Last season's CAF Champions League finalists Mamelodi Sundowns appear as one of the teams in the Club of the Year nominees.

Orlando Pirates have also made the cut after reaching the Champions League last-four.

Srellenbosch complete the list of South African clubs in this category and they have been recognised after being CAF Confederation Cup semi-finalists last season.

Despite being the reigning African Champions and reaching the 2025 FIFA Under-20 World Cup knockouts, Amajita have been ignored in the National Team of the Year category.

It might appear as a surprise nomination after Raymond Mdaka's boys went to both the Under-20 AFCON AND World Cup inadequately prepared but emerged as fierce competitors.

However, Bafana Bafana have been included in this bracket, especially after qualifying for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The 2025 CAF Awards ceremony is expected to take place in December 2025 at a date yet to be announced by the continental football governing body.

It is to be seen which South African nominees will claim the top going in their respective categories in which they have been named.
