  • Bayern draw 2-2 at Freiburg
  • Tuchel slams his team's performance
  • Gives Leverkusen chance to go 10 points clear
  • WHAT HAPPENED?

The German champions gave away a late goal to squander points in the title race. However, the game was lost in the overall performance which showed no signs of Bayern going on to overhaul Bayer Leverkusen's lead at the top of the Bundesliga. A poor opening 30 minutes allowed Freiburg to take the lead before Mathys Tel and Jamal Musiala put Bayern ahead, only for Lucas Holer to break Bayern hearts in the 87th minute.

    WHAT TUCHEL SAID

Tuchel slammed his side's first-half performance, telling ESPN: "Terrible half an hour from us. 10-15 minutes in the first half were not more than OK. The second-half was good, with big chances, good spirit, much better discipline with much better quality in our match overall. We could have won, but we did not defend the throw-in [for Freiburg’s equaliser] how it needed to be to escape with a win. Overall, we can say it was not enough in the first half to fully deserve the victory."

  • THE BIGGER PICTURE

In yet another subpar Bayern showing, Tuchel rued missed chances and poor defending that has haunted his team all season. Bayern have had a tendency to throw leads away and capitulate - something the unbeaten Leverkusen have avoided - which has, in part, cost Tuchel his job at the end of this term.

    WHAT NEXT FOR BAYERN?

Tuchel and his Bayern players will sweat on Leverkusen's game against Koln tomorrow, with Xabi Alonso's side now able to plump their cushion at the top. If Leverkusen win, Bayern will have to claw back 10 points in as many games to win the title.
