    WHAT HAPPENED?

Under coach Jose Riveiro, Orlando Pirates have been doing well domestically and continentally.

They have so far won five Cups and done well in the Premier Soccer League.

The outgoing tactician has stabilised the team, and the players look hungry to deliver.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

This season, Bucs have done well across all competitions.

After winning the MTN8 for the unprecedented third time in a row, Bucs are keen on repeating the same in the Nedbank Cup, where they will be playing Kaizer Chiefs in the final.

The Sea Robbers are also in the Caf Champions League semi-final where they are scheduled to play Pyramids.

Bucs faithful hope their team can go all the way and stop Mamelodi Sundowns in the Premier Soccer League race.

However, the Buccaneers legend Teboho Moloi has warned the fans against expecting too much.

    WHAT MOLOI SAID

“They are a special bunch of players that understand what’s expected of them, they have given us trophies, given us happiness, they’ve given us everything we want to see, that stands and represents Orlando Pirates,” the Bucs legend said at the SuperSportBet media event.

“So, for us now to start saying them you’re in a semi-final, you’re in a final, we didn’t foresee all these things. But they know what it means to play for Pirates, they knew what is expected of them, they understand expectations and what the people want from them.

“So for me to say I must start professing that I see them winning the Nedbank, overthrowing Sundowns, winning the Champions League, would be unfair on the boys, they have done everything we expect, so let them enjoy the wave crest they are riding and we just support them and be happy," Moloi continued.

“Win or lose, Mabhakaniya, we’re always happy; 1993 was the renaissance year and the Chairman said, if he’d still be alive during this time, you will be able to see what it was I wanted to build, and what he wanted to build is seeing Pirates fans, spiritual owners, be it we lose, we win, signing and being happy, wearing the merchandise.

“During my era, how many people were wearing the merchandise? So it’s the Renaissance, which started in ’93, these are the fruits that everyone is now enjoying," the 56-year-old concluded.

    WHAT NEXT?

Having come this far, Pirates will be hoping to go all the way, especially in the Caf Champions League where they are chasing their second star after the 1995 triumph.

Nonetheless, the most important thing is for the management to ensure they get a tactician who will help them continue doing well after the work done by Riveiro.
