    WHAT HAPPENED?

Former Jomo Cosmos midfielder Teboho Mokoena has hit out at Mamelodi Sundowns coach Miguel Cardoso and asked him to stop complaining over fixtures.

The former Esperance coach has always made his opinion known regarding the number of games the Tshwane giants play within a congested time period.

However, Mokoena said it is not only Sundowns that are facing a congested fixture, and thus Cardoso should stop complaining.

    WHAT MOKOENA SAID

“Cardoso shouldn’t complain so much. Remember that other teams are also facing the same challenges. He needs to adapt to the fixture schedule. What makes him special?” Mokoena asked, as per KickOff.

“All clubs in the PSL experience fatigue at this time. It’s not the first time he has played on a Wednesday and then again on a Friday. That’s normal in today’s football landscape.

“Who does he think he is, coming to South Africa and trying to dictate how the PSL should be run? With such a big squad, Sundowns has no room for complaints. He needs to utilise the players who haven’t had much game time this season," he added.

    WHAT IS MORE

Despite his criticism directed at the Portuguese tactician, the former Bidvest Wits midfielder believes Sundowns players will conduct themselves in a professional manner in the games remaining in the season.

“So, to Cardoso, I would say, you can’t leave your country and come here to complain in a foreign land," the former Mpumalanga Black Aces stated.

“Sundowns are professionals. Regardless of how many times they have won the league, they consistently work hard for every achievement.

“I know that Sundowns will not underestimate Richards Bay FC. As professionals, they will be focused and determined. The only team that can beat Sundowns is Sundowns themselves,” he continued.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Sundowns have been competing on multiple fronts: the Premier Soccer League and the Caf Champions League, and they reached the semi-final of the Nedbank Cup, where they were eliminated by Kaizer Chiefs.

Mokoena's outburst against the Sundowns coach has come at a critical time for the Brazilians. They are on the verge of defending the PSL title and have already booked their place in the Caf Champions League final.

The Tshwane giants will take on Pyramids FC, who eliminated Orlando Pirates, in a two-legged Champions League final on May 24 and June 1. At home, they are challenged by the Sea Robbers in the league's title race.

The Club World Cup campaign also awaits them in June.

Four days later, the PSL defending champions will be up against Chippa United on May 7.
