Salary increase after parents' reveal pay woes? Orlando Pirates extend Bafana Bafana winger Monnapule Saleng's contract amid Kaizer Chiefs rumours - Reports

Despite starting the ongoing 2024/25 Premier Soccer League season quite well, Monnapule Saleng has found the going at the club tough.

His last appearance for the team was in December in the Caf Champions League fixture against Al Ahly at the Orlando Stadium.

Since then, the 26-year-old has not played for the Buccaneers.

Recently, Saleng's parents recently stated their son is earning less at Pirates despite what he is offering on the pitch.

Kaizer Chiefs had reportedly contacted Saleng's agent, hoping to sign him once his current deal expires at the end of the season.

However, it seems the Sea Robbers are not ready to let the Bafana Bafana international leave and triggering an option in his contract comes with a salary increment.

Pirates had an option of extending the contract by two years, and they have reportedly done exactly that.

"Pirates have exercised its option for another two years. After his eye-catching performances in the Motsepe Foundation Championship," FARPost reported.

"His three-year deal with the Pirates kicked in at the start of the 2022/23 season after his Swallows stint. That contract was initially valid until June 2025, although there was a two-year extension option.

"The latest development indicates that Saleng will remain a player for the Pirates for an additional two seasons. What it also means is that he can’t sign a pre-contract with any club. Any club interested in him would have to buy him from his club."

It is interesting to see whether Saleng will be reinstated to Jose Riveiro's Pirates side after his outing with the Bafana Bafana team taking part in the 2024 Chan qualifier.

Saleng and his Bafana teammates are in camp ahead of Sunday's clash against Egypt in North Africa.
