    WHAT HAPPENED?

South African coach Rhulani Mokwena is in the country after a season-long assignment in the Botola Pro League side with Wydad Athletic Club.

The 38-year-old experienced tactician is set for another journey, either in the Premier Soccer League or abroad.

Mokwena is open to taking up any coaching role anywhere as long as there is an agreement in place.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Recent reports indicate that Pirates have made contact in their bid to seal the services of Mokwena, who had initially been linked to Zamalek.

Bucs want to have a coach whose tactics are either the same or close to the ones set by former coach Jose Riveiro.

Mokwena has also revealed what he wants in order to take any coaching offer.

    WHAT MOKWENA SAID

“My next role must align with my philosophy – control, intensity, and development,” he told iDiski Times.

“A stable club with solid resources offers the platform to compete immediately; their infrastructure supported our 15-match unbeaten run last season.

“But more than anything, a project with an opportunity to rebuild with intent appeals to my desire to shape a legacy. I’m open to both, provided there’s a shared commitment to excellence and resources to match the ambition," Mokwena added.

    AND WHAT IS MORE

The former Masandawana tactician has conceded that teams have shown interest in his services.

“There’s been interest, and with humility, that’s all I can say,” he continued.

“It is flattering and I realise how much clubs and people involved in football appreciate the work we did, especially at Wydad, with taking the team, without players at the beginning of the season, with all that happened, and still managed to finish third in Botola. But over and above that, what I keep hearing is how much they admire the philosophy and playing style that we have developed.

“Many clubs that speak to us mention this as our currency, and this makes me very proud. I’m approaching this phase with patience, because I don’t want to make a fast decision like last time and enter a space that’s unfamiliar without truly understanding the dynamics. The right opportunity will reveal itself in time," Mokwena concluded.

    WHAT NEXT?

It is not clear whether Mokwena will take up Bucs' coaching role or not, but the Premier Soccer League will benefit from having the tactician back in the country.

Pirates have local and international competitions to compete in next season, and they need an experienced player like Mokwena to help them deliver.
