    WHAT HAPPENED?

Rhulani Mokwena has justified Wydad Casablanca's difficult start to the season.

The Moroccan giants recorded their second successive defeat on Saturday after losing 1-0 to 10-man RSB Berkane.

It left Wydad sixth on the Moroccan Botola Pro League with six points fewer than log leaders Berkane which angered Wydad fans who threw missiles at Mokwena and his team after the game.

However, Mokwena has defended their tough run.

    WHAT MOKWENA SAID

“At big clubs, you have to win games. My philosophy and beliefs are mine, and I’ll die by them," Mokwena told Moroccan media.

“Someone from Egypt told me, ‘Mokwena, you need to win the CAF Champions League with Wydad.’ He said, ‘Pitso Mosimane never won the Premier League title with Al Ahly, but he won the Champions League.’ He told me, ‘I am the guy to win the Champions League with Wydad.’

“I understand the expectations of Wydad fans, but we will get there. Inshallah. When we get there, we have to improve and even get much better," added the former Masandawana coach.

“I believe in this team, our staff, and our work. No coach comes in when the team finished 6th the previous season… with new players, new board, new staff, and to be honest, I thought we would have struggled more than we have. I think it’s a good start for Wydad.”

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Mokwena might be justified in his comments about the mass signings after he brought in at least 16 new players for this season.

Those players include ex-Mamelodi Sundowns star Cassius Mailula and former AC Milan star Mbaye Niang and it might take time for his squad to take shape and fully warm up to his methods of play.

But his Wydad bosses might not be patient with him if positive results continue inconsistently.

    WHAT NEXT FOR WYDAD?

The Moroccan giants will be hoping to have improved results in their upcoming games, starting with Thursday's visit to FUS Rabat.

Failure to win that match might complicate Mokwena's future at Wydad.
