    WHAT HAPPENED?

    New Esteghlal FC coach Pitso Mosimane will be unavailable when the club faces off against Cristiano Ronaldo's Al-Nassr in the AFC Champions League on Tuesday evening.

    The former Mamelodi Sundowns mentor was appointed the new head coach of the Persian Gulf Pro League powerhouse last week.

    Jingles, as the tactician is affectionately known, hasn't started working with his new players and that will see him miss midweek Esteghlal's clash against Al-Nassr.

    WHAT WAS SAID

    "Pitso Mosimane will not be coaching the famous Royal Blues in the coming game, as his official beginning of training camp will be on Wednesday, the day after Esteghlal's important game against Al-Nassr," a club statement read.c

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

    Esteghlal are currently fifth in the AFC Champions League table - having accumulated three points from their first two matches in the competition.

    On the other hand, the three-time Caf Champions League winner's new club has collected eight points after seven games in the Persian Gulf Pro League so far.

    Mosimane faced Al-Nassr in April as Abha's coach in the Saudi Pro League match and lost 8-0 with Ronaldo scoring a hat-trick.

    Mosimane will have his first Esteghlal training session on Wednesday and prepare for the team's league game against former Kaizer Chiefs player Anthony Akumu's club, Kheybar Khorramabad on Saturday.
