BackpageOur coverage questioning Jayden Adams transfer to Mamelodi Sundowns stirred up a hornets' nest - 'In two years he will be crying on a podcast about his bad decision'
BackpagepixWHAT HAPPENED?
Earlier this week reports emerged that Stellenbosch star midfielder Jayden Adams was in Pretoria putting the final touches to his move to perennial PSL champions Mamelodi Sundowns.
The 23-year-old had been linked with a move away from the Winelands club since the winter transfer window and both Soweto giants were rumoured to be interested in the twice-capped Bafana player.
But with a deal basically done with Masandawana our thoughts turned to how the move could affect the young player's development and career prospects.
There are two very long lists to consider. The first is of the midfielders already on the books at Chloorkop who will stand in Adam's way for a starting spot. The second is an even longer list of the players that have chased their dreams to Pretoria but found themselves surplus to requirements and doomed to various desperate loan spells to try to resurrect their careers.
GOALasked the question whether Adams' move was the wisest choice and, boy, did we get a response.
THE VOTE
Voting on our WhatsApp group was clearly along club affiliation lines with Chiefs and Pirates fans skewing the vote in their clubs' best interest.

BackpagePixWHAT ELSE?
Our Whatsapp group vote came out in favour of Adams moving to Chiefs or Pirates but fans of any club will always vote with their hearts. And so it was on Facebook too as GOAL took a lot of stick from outraged Sundowns fans at the suggestion it was possibly a bad move...
Julio Ceaser Chavez - In 2 years to come he will be in one of the podcasts crying on the bad decision he made like many have done so.
Vino Malindi - Baba one thing for sure HE IS GOING TO LIFT LEAGUE TROPHY 🏆 AND PLAY IN CAF ONE THING FOR SURE,UP THE BRAZILIAN WE WELCOME YOU TO THE HOME OF CHAMPIONS
Lungile Mokakane - In that midfield with Coetzee & Aubaas & Allende & Mokoena & Mkhulise & Maboe & Saveedra & Modiba & Maema & Zwane? Good luck to Adams!
Sibabalo Esbee - People said the same about Williams and Mokoena look at them now 💯🔥⚽ I believe this small will enjoy his career at Masandawana🔥🔥🔥
B O NG Anii - Rest in peace Jayden. You'll be forgotten soon. Go ask Thembinkosi Lorch, Oupa Manyisa, George Maluleke, and George Lebese to name a few, they'll tell you a story, young man.
Mbolekwa Beeza Mtamzeli - They said the same about Williams! Unbothered! Welcome to the home of champions Jayden! #KBY
BackPagePixWHAT NEXT FOR JAYDEN ADAMS?
At the time of publishing the deal is yet to be announced. Assuming young Jayden did not read our feature and get cold feet he will be unveiled as a Brazilian ahead of Sundowns' crucial Caf Champions League match at Loftus on Saturday against current Group B leaders AS FAR Rabat.
The match will come too soon for the 23-year-old to be involved in the squad but he will likely be eyeing a debut against Magesi in a mid-week PSL clash, or the Nedbank Cup against amateur side Sibanye Golden Stars.
Once the debut is done the hard work really begins as claiming (and keeping) a place in that starting XI is one of the toughest assignments in South African football.
Good luck Jayden!
