    WHAT HAPPENED?

Orlando Pirates have been one of the most active players in the South African off-season transfer window in their bid to get quality and depth to enable them to sustain their Premier Soccer League challenge and make an impact in the CAF Champions League as well.

For Kaizer Chiefs, the main target is to get back to the top of Mzansi football, and challenge for domestic cups and deliver in the CAF Confederation Cup, which explains the players they have signed.

It is not clear whether Bucs will add more new faces, but surely, Amakhosi are not done.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

One of the players who has been linked to both Chiefs and Pirates is an out-of-favor Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder, Neo Maema.

He has been overlooked on several occasions by coach Miguel Cardoso, who sees him as a fringe player despite his quality when given a chance.

The Soweto giants were keen to benefit, but it will not be the case as an agreement has been reached with Simba SC of Tanzania, coached by ex-Bucs tactician Fadlu Jacobs, this is according to the player's agent Steve Kapeluschnik.

    WHAT KAPELUSCHNIK SAID

“We have had several local offers for Neo in the local Betway Premiership – good offers for a good player," he told SABC Sport.

"But we’ve come to a loan agreement with Simba because that gives him the opportunity to play for a team that challenges for league titles and is also in the CAF inter-club competitions.

“I can tell you that the deal is almost concluded, but of course, there is a bit of a delay with Neo, who is part of the national team at the moment," Kapeluschnik concluded.

    WHAT NEXT?

Currently, Maema is captaining Bafana Bafana for CHAN, which is ongoing and co-hosted by Tanzania, Kenya, and Uganda.

After the competition, he will then complete the formalities and rejoin Rushine De Reuck, who was signed by Wekundu wa Msimbazi on loan as well.
