    WHAT HAPPENED?

Sekhukhune United released a statement announcing that Lehlohonolo Seema has been relieved of his duties as head coach, leaving Kaitano Tembo and Paulos Masehe as the interim coaches till the club gives more information on the new mentor.

This follows their 2-1 loss to Richards Bay, marking their second consecutive league defeat.

Sekhukhune did manage to beat NFD side Milford in between to book a spot in the last eight of the Nedbank Cup.

Babina Noko are currently in fourth place with 31 points from 20 games in the league. Earlier on Thursday, Seema addressed the issue regarding Sipho Mbule, making it his final media appearance as the coach of Sekhukhune United.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Sekhukhune United’s struggle for consistency has led to Seema’s departure, as much as he has guided the team to third place in the league and the Nedbank Cup quarterfinals.

However, back-to-back league defeats to Mamelodi Sundowns and Richards Bay proved costly, despite his strong cup run, and it was not enough to save his job.

Kaitano Tembo has now taken over as interim coach, while reports suggest the club is in talks with former Cape Town City coach Eric Tinkler for the permanent role.

    WHAT NEXT FOR SEKHUKHUNE?

Sekhukhune United now face a tough task in the Nedbank Cup last eight. They will travel to Mamelodi Sundowns, who have already defeated them in the league in a game that had enough entertainment.

The challenge ahead will be significant as Sundowns continue to perform strongly under Miguel Cardoso, who was recently named Coach of the Month.
