NWSL Power Rankings: Orlando Pride, Kansas City Current dominate, with sensational rookie goals from Seattle Reign FC and Angel City

The second week of the 2025 NWSL season did not disappoint, as the Orlando Pride and Kansas City Current showed up unsurprisingly, and Seattle Reign FC rookie Jordyn Bugg made her case for goal of the year.

So, who's leading the pack, and who's falling short of expectations? INDIVISA presents the latest 2025 NWSL Power Rankings.

  • Chicago StarsGetty Images

    14Chicago Stars ↔️

The Chicago Stars extended their losing streak in Week 2, falling to the Houston Dash. The Stars have most of the pieces to be successful, but need to find their chemistry though pockets of the pitch. Mallory Swanson is an obvious miss for the team up top.

  • Reilyn TurnerImagn

    13Portland Thorns ↔️

The Portland Thorns struggled to beat Angel City, despite Sophia Wilson cheering the team on. The Thorns are having a hard time finding attacking opportunities, especially without Sinclair and Wilson.

One of the bright spots for the Thorns is Reilyn Turner, who was the difference maker for the very young team.

  • Utah RoyalsGetty Images

    12Utah Royals ⬇️

The Utah Royals crawled back against the San Diego Wave, however some early mistakes made it difficult. The Royals came back from down from 2-0 to eventually level the game, just moments before the Wave scored again.

Defensively the Royals had a tough time keeping up with the Wave's speed, but with Ally Sentnor in the middle, the Royals should be able to climb up the rankings.

  • Emma Sears Racing Louisville Nike

    11Racing Louisville ⬇️

Racing Louisville had a tough Week 2, falling 2-0. Despite Emma Sears and some other bright stars offensively, transitional plays hurt them in the 90 minutes.

  • Gia Corley, Angel City FC Kelvin Kuo-Imagn Images

    10Angel City FC ⬇️

Angel City FC drew the Portland Thorns 1-1 in Week 2. The highlight of the game, and Angel City's performance, was rookie sensation Kennedy Fuller's striking finish.

Fuller has had quite the start to her 2025 campaign, and despite some shaky moments defensively from Angel City, their midfield is concise and threats down the wings are hard to stop.

  • Bay FC v Houston DashGetty Images Sport

    9Houston Dash ⬆️

Houston Dash are back to winning ways. The Dash earned a 2-1 result over the Chicago Red Stars, controlling most of the game and showcasing some quality possession style of play.

Paige Neilson and rookie Maggie Grahm were the Dash's difference-makers in the final third. Another exciting part of the way the Dash lined up was their back three.

  • Bay FCImagn

    8Bay FC ⬆️

Bay FC earned a dominant 2-0 win over Racing Louisville. Bay FC was exciting to watch with both goals coming from free kicks, one that Joelle Anderson picked off, and the second an offensive chance from rookie striker Karlie Lema.

Bay FC will travel across the coast to face the Washington Spirit in Week 3.

  • San Diego WaveGetty Images

    7San Diego Wave ⬆️

San Diego Wave scored three goals against the Utah Royals, to win 3-2 at home. San Diego Wave looked dangerous up top, with goals from Maria Sanchez, Adriana Leon and Gia Corley.

Delphine Cascarino also showed up on the attack, contributing to almost every offensive chance. While there was lots of postitives, the Wave did give up their lead, allowing the Royals to crawl back from down 2-0.

  • Jess Carter, Gotham FCVincent Carchietta-Imagn Images

    6Gotham FC ⬇️

Gotham FC were stumped against the Orlando Pride at home in Week 2.

Despite efforts to score, and some good defensive moments and combinations, some mistakes led to a 2-0 loss in Harrison against a high-flying Orlando side. Gotham FC will face the Dash next week on the road.

  • North Carolina CourageImagn

    5North Carolina Courage ⬇️

The North Carolina Courage put up a tough fight against the Reign, but how can anyone stop a shot like Jordyn Bugg's from a distance? The Courage managed to get one in the back of the net, but finishing seems to be a question mark as they enter their second game with just one goal.

Next week, the Courage face the Portland Thorns, so perhaps we will see a Jaedyn Shaw and Ashley Sanchez combination play and finish.

  • Jessica Fishlock, Seattle ReignRob Kinnan-Imagn Images

    4Seattle Reign ⬆️

Seattle Reign vs. North Carolina was the game to watch on Saturday. The Reign were electric, from rookie center back Bugg's insane shot from a distance to Jess Fishlock's opening banger.

This team may have surprised some people with their ability to score, especially after last season. The Reign went on to beat North Carolina 2-1 in Week 2 play.

  • Kansas City Current  v Washington SpiritGetty Images Sport

    3Washington Spirit ⬇️

While the Washington Spirit fell at home to a very good Kansas City Current side, the former NWSL Championship runners-up did some quality things.

For one, Trinity Rodman entered the match which had Audi Field rowdy as ever, and Leicy Santos is special, given her pace and creativity around the box.

  • Temwa Chawinga Getty Images

    2Kansas City Current ⬆️

Kansas City Current look very tough to beat. They didn't play just anybody in Week 2 - they faced the Washington Spirit.

With patience and brilliance in the final third, the Current managed to win 2-0 on the road. Again, can anyone stop Temwa Chawinga? Doesn't seem like it.

  • Marta, Barbra Banda Orlando Pride HICGetty Images

    1Orlando Pride ↔️

The Orlando Pride went to New Jersey and put a mark on Gotham FC, defeating the NJ/NY side 2-0.

Granted, Gotham FC faulted an own goal for the first one, but Orlando dominated most of the play and managed to get another chance by way of a penalty.

Marta stepped up to take the kick, and just like that the Pride earned three points on the road.
