    WHAT HAPPENED?

Kaizer Chiefs loaned out winger Donay Jansen to SuperSport United before the start of the current 2024/25 season.

But the youngster is struggling for regular football at Matsatsantsa and coach Gavin Hunt comments on his development.

    WHAT HUNT SAID

“Obviously, Donay came on the last day of the window. So, we need to find out where he plays because every team has a different way of playing. And I think he’s a very good footballer,” said Hunt as per FARPost.

“And I feel sorry for him because where we need him, I think it’s going to be tough for him to play. But yeah, he’s a good footballer. The problem is no reserve league, these types of things.

“He needs games. You can’t just train, train, train every day. So, I think we’re pretty out of Africa," he added.

“That doesn’t help me because Africa’s good to play one or two and give them a chance. So, he’s going to compete, and hopefully, he gets a better run down again.”

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Jansen has managed to play just two matches for SuperSport this season when he had 36 minutes in a Premier Soccer League match against Orlando Pirates and then six minutes against his parent club Chiefs in the Carling Knockout.

That does not make a good reading for the midfielder as he presses to impress Amakhosi coach Nasreddine Nabi to recall him in January in the middle of his loan deal.

Jansen, whose cousin is Chiefs legend, Bernard Parker, is trying to get back into the Amakhosi attacking midfield role that already has the likes of Gaston Sirino, Mduduzi Shabalala, Mfundo Vilakazi, Nkosingiphile Ngcobo and Pule Mmodi.

    WHAT NEXT FOR JANSEN?

Having last tasted competitive football in October, Jansen is pushing to get back into the Matsatsantsa matchday lineup.

He is struggling for game time at a time when other traditional giants Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns are unleashing red-hot youngsters to do duty in key games.
